Jill M. Norvilitis

Dr. Norvilitis is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in children with ADHD, both in the United States and cross-culturally. Recently, due to the issues she sees everyday, she has become interested in consumer debt in college students. Dr. Norvilitis earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and has been a faculty member at Buffalo State since 1997.

Recent Students Mentored

Gabrielle Burke:  Gabrielle presented her independent study, The Effects of Bullying and Sexting on College Adjustment, at the Eastern Psychological Association Conference in Philadelphia, PA.  She also presented her research at the Student Research and Creativity Conference and recently published her research in the International Journal of Cyber Behavior, Psychology and Learning. Gabrielle is now enrolled in graduate studies in education at Buffalo State.

Leah Janikowski:  Leah received a small grant in the fall of 2017 for her independent study, Parental Perceptions of Children with and without Learning Disabilities.  She presented the results of her study at the Eastern Psychological Association Conference in Philadelphia, PA in March 2018 and published her research in Modern Psychological Studies. Leah, who graduated in 2018, completed her master's degree in Educational Psychology at the University at Buffalo and is now enrolled in the doctoral program in Educational Psychology at the Ohio State University.

Carly Pershyn:  Carly, who was the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award and the David Vernon Bullough Outstanding Senior Award in Psychology, graduated in May 2017.  She presented her honors thesis, Femininity encourages, masculinity inhibits:  Social norms, sexual orientation, and perceptions of sexual intimacy, at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston, MA and at the Buffalo State Research and Creativity Conference.  She is enrolled in the University at Buffalo's Interdisciplinary Master's in Psychology and Philosophy. 

Veronica Darlow:  Veronica, who was awarded membership in Who’s Who among Students in American Colleges and Universities, is a May 2015 graduate.  She presented her independent study, The relationship between helicopter parenting and adjustment to college, at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Philadelphia, PA. Her work was published in the Journal of Child and Family Studies. Veronica completed her master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania and is now enrolled the doctoral program in clinical psychology at LaSalle University.

Meghan Batt: Meghan Batt, who was the recipient of the Psychology Department’s Esther McGinnis Award in Psychology, graduated in December 2014.  She presented her independent study, The relationship between student loans and loan attitudes and locus of control, at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston, MA and at the Buffalo State Student Research and Creativity Celebration.  Her research was recently published in the Journal of Student Financial Aid.

Tessa Bechtold, who was the recipient of the Psychology Department’s Dr. Jack Morganti Award for Excellence in Service, graduated in May 2014.  She received an undergraduate student mini-grant in the fall of 2013 for her study, College students and ADHD medication.  The mini-grant enabled her to recruit over 600 participants using Amazon’s M-Turk.  With the assistance of travel funds from the Office of Undergraduate Research, she presented the results of her study at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston, MA and at the Buffalo State Student Research and Creativity Celebration in 2014.  Tessa is a graduate of the Mental Health Counseling graduate program at the University at Buffalo.
